How to Go Grocery Shopping With a Car Seat

You need to go to the grocery store, and sure enough, your baby fell asleep in the 10 minutes it took to get there. Now what?

Do you sit and wait until she wakes up?

Do you take her out, try to strap her into a baby carrier, and hope she stays asleep?

Do you keep her in the car seat and set the whole thing in the shopping cart?

If you ask us, none of those options sounds appealing. Sure you could scroll through Instagram while you wait for her to wake up, but your idling engine is wasting gas and polluting the air. An infant carrier is a good option because you can shop hands-free, but it can still restrict your movements (no bending over to pick up dropped toothpaste), and do you really think she’ll stay asleep? So then is the best solution to keep your baby in her car seat and place it in the cart?

Your best and safest choice isn’t putting the car seat in the cart. If you do that, you won’t have much room for groceries and the car seat could move and cause your baby to sit in an incorrect position. You need a safe, convenient, mom and baby-approved grocery cart hammock.

How to Fit a Car Seat in a Shopping Cart

Infant car seats are big and heavier than they look—especially when there’s a baby inside. So while you can put a baby car seat directly in a shopping cart, you’re left with about half or less of the space you should have for food. Some parents use the fold-down child seat or shelf under the cart. But the seat doesn’t provide much food space and makes it hard to reach your little one if necessary. The bottom shelf is roomy, but there’s a chance your groceries could roll off onto the floor.

A grocery cart hammock is how you can safely fit a car seat in a shopping cart and still have room for all your groceries. It holds your infant car seat in a comfortable cradled position and securely latches onto the cart. Simply attach the shopping cart hammock to the sides of the cart with the two weight-tested clips and further secure it with a Velcro strap. It’s really that simple!

Why You Should Use a Baby Sling for a Shopping Cart

Along with being safety tested, here’s why grocery shopping with a baby is better with our shopping cart hammock:

  • Doubles as a shopping cart baby carrier and shopping cart car seat holder. Made to hold 50 pounds and designed with a safety seat harness and infant carrier strap, you can use it to safely hold your baby or an infant car seat.
  • Hangs elevated. With how it hangs on the cart, you can use every inch of space in the cart by fitting items under and around your baby.
  • Unrestricted shopping. No baby carrier and not having to push two carts means you’re ready for hands-free shopping.
